MIPIM 2022 will host Propel Station to showcase the latest technology and innovation in real estate

In recognition of its growing importance for the property industry, proptech and innovation will take centre stage at MIPIM 2022. Propel by MIPIM, the only global brand dedicated to real estate technology and innovation, is heading to MIPIM in Cannes with Propel Station: a 4-day programme of conferences, exhibition and events designed to move forward the industry by implementing the most innovative technologies and business models. Alongside the Propel by MIPIM programme, technology and innovation will be showcased throughout the whole conference, with a number of major exhibitors throughout the Palais des Festivals.

2021 was a record year for the proptech sector, with $32bn invested globally. The pandemic accelerated the digitisation of the industry, with business leaders recognising the need to adapt their business models, embracing innovative and disruptive tech solutions to survive and thrive post-covid. This rapid adoption of technology looks set to continue, with emerging trends and concepts such as the Metaverse offering exciting possibilities for the industry.

Andy Poppink, EMEA CEO, JLL, the official keynote speaker of MIPIM 2022 Innovation & Tech programme, said: “Real estate and technology have been on converging paths for a number of years, and the two are now intrinsically connected.  Many of the major workplace and property trends are enabled by technology.  Mobility and hybrid work are enhanced by technology platforms.  The ability to garner and measure data is critical in supporting our sustainability and ESG journey.  With major investment going in to property technology, we are seeing an acceleration of this convergence and it is an exciting time for our industry”

A keynote speech, entitled ‘From Innovation to Change’ will be given by Andy Poppink, EMEA CEO of JLL, on how to bridge the divide between real estate and technology.

Aaron Block, co-founder and managing partner at MetaProp, said: “It’s amazing to see the continued convergence of traditional property and PropTech. The COVID-19 pandemic really accelerated technology as a core competency for many forward-thinking real estate industry leaders. I expect this convergence to accelerate in the coming months and years and am particularly excited to see the Propel content and attendees here at MIPIM 2022.”

Propel Station’s programme includes more than 75 curated solutions on a 1,000-sqm exhibition area to raise the profiles of key industry players, experienced tech companies and startups.

Across four days, the programme will feature a wide range of speakers, tackling subjects ranging from data-driven impact investment to real estate opportunities in the Metaverse. Content will include an introduction to the latest proptech solutions, as well as showcasing innovative business models such as co-living and co-working models.

Central to the programme is the Propel by MIPIM Startup Competition, in partnership with global industry partner MetaProp, set to showcase the most promising and innovative startups around the world. Semi-finalists, selected by the jury in February, will pitch their ideas and solutions to tackle the biggest urban challenges in four categories, whilst attendees will be able to vote for the winners, alongside a carefully selected jury.

The winners will be announced during the final ceremony on March 17, by a grand jury chaired by Aaron Block of Meta Prop, and comprising of Julia Arlt, Global Digital Real Estate Leader at PwC; Guillaume Bazouin, Head of Startup and Intrapreneurship at Leonard; and Tanguy Quero, Principal at JLL Spark.

With proptech taking centre stage at MIPIM 2022, numerous international partners have been brought on board, including French Proptech, UKPA, Proptech Denmark, Holland Contech, and Proptech Lab. Key innovation and tech exhibitors at this year’s conference include:

  • Industrial: Sageglass by Saint-Gobain, Schneider Electric, Schindler, BMI Group, Arcelor Stelligence
  • Mature tech companies: Yardi, Altus Analytics, Planradar, Matterport, BuildingMinds, PriceHubble
