NRCC – BRCC Night of the SMEs in Cluj, 23rd of March

NRCC and BRCC  organize together the 1st edition of the NRCC – BRCC Night of the SMEs in Cluj, a dedicated event for top management of small and medium companies. Maurits Dohmen, Executive Director, NRCC (Netherlands Romanian Chamber of Commerce) explains:

What determined / inspired your organization to organize and develop this concept for SMEs?

From 2006, NRCC supports and promotes the Dutch-Romanian business community through several mechanisms and deliverable s, including here also dedicated events. The SMEs are strongly represented within the NRCC community, now with 180+ members from Bucharest, Brasov, Cluj, Constanta and Bacau, reason why we considered natural to offer this segment a tailored event that delivers 3 major benefits: specialized content, networking with peers and business matchmaking.

Launched successfully in 2015, in Bucharest, NRCC NIGHT OF THE SMEs is aimed to the decision makers of SMEs (small & medium enterprises), using the set-up of a Seated Dinner with knowledge sharing on business development. The first two editions organized in Bucharest proved to be of added value for the SMEs attending. Now we take the event out of Bucharest to reach out to the SMEs in other regions of Romania, of which the edition in Cluj-Napoca, on 23rd of March 2017 is the first. In Cluj, we partnership with BRCC to reach a wider audience. The next edition in Bucharest will take place in November this year.

During the dinner, the guests enjoy the 4 courses (25 minutes each) at the table of a key-topic provider, sharing ideas and discussing issues or challenges of their interest in a 1-2-1 manner. The changing tables concepts leads to attending more different topics and to increase the interaction between attendants and thus make networking and know-how transfer more efficient and targeted. In the same time, for a key-topic provider, hosting a table is a huge added value and lead generation concept.

How do you see the role of the SMEs in the economy, particularly in Romania, and for the regional market?

SMEs are the backbone of Europe’s economy and represent 99% of all businesses in the EU, creating around 85%. In Romania, there are many opportunities especially in the agro-food industry, IT&C and other creative industries, so we think that SMEs have a great potential in becoming a seed of economic revival, really supporting the country’s development. Contributing to creating a strong SME sector at regional levels is a long term objective in the strategy of the NRCC. Anyway, we feel positive about the future of Romania as we have already acknowledged its great potential.

Which are your organization plans for expanding in the regional cities / developing other events for companies active in the country?

We are focused on sharing trough our community knowledge with local business communities in other regions. This is wrapped in a concept called NRCC University. We provide in this manner a platform where our members present their field of interest and where local businesses can meet the NRCC. Such topics are: how to successfully apply for EU funding for a particular region and/or industry, Top changes in Tax, How to manage your work fleet etc. In this manner, we address the entire local business community, Romanian and Dutch.

A spin-off of the NRCC University is the focus on Start-Ups in certain regions, with the goal to help start-ups trough knowledge and contacts. In Brasov and Bucharest, presentations of Uber for example were aimed for Start-Ups and entrepreneurs. In this manner we are active in Bucharest, Cluj, Brasov, Constanta, Bacau. And we plan this year to visit other cities.

Our events are open also to externals companies and we organize frequently joint meetings with other business associations and / or bilateral chambers so we generate a bigger and diversified business matchmaking platform in the end. For e.g, in Brasov, we have every 2 month a networking drink with DWK – German Economic Club in Brasov.

Also, we have a strong link with the Netherlands as we intend to be a platform for trade between the two countries. Trough our sister organisation the DRN (Dutch Romanian Network) we have a reach in the Netherlands which helps our members who wish to land their feet in the Dutch markets or seek partners. Therefore expanding, though we rather say interact in other cities, intensifies the use of us as a platform which we want to be.
