The remarkable presence of Romanian exhibitors at Expo Real München 2022

Three full days of the fair, an intense program of meetings and individual discussions at each stand. All the decision-makers in the real estate sector gathered between 4 and 6 October 2022 at EXPO REAL Munich, Europe’s largest fair for real estate projects and investments. The fair thus succeeding, once again, to be the main meeting point of the industry. It is the tenth consecutive year that AHK Romania organized Romania’s common stand at EXPO REAL Munich.

Attendance has almost reached pre-pandemic levels: the fair is up nearly 60 percent from the previous year. In numbers, compared to 2019 (because 2021 was still marked by the pandemic): This year almost 40,000 visitors from 73 countries gathered at Expo Real (2019: 46,747 / 76). The total number of participants included 19,500 specialists (2019: 22,065) and 20,456 company representatives (2019: 24,682). The 1,887 exhibitors come from 33 countries (2019: 2,189 / 44).

After Germany, the top ten exhibiting countries were: Austria, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Poland, Great Britain and Northern Ireland, France, Portugal, the USA and the Czech Republic, tied with Romania. “In a time of major change, EXPO REAL reaffirms how valuable it is as an exchange and information platform for the real estate industry”, explains Stefan Rummel, Managing Director of Messe München, responsible for EXPO REAL.

“Romania now has a very good opportunity, in a very uncertain economic period, to position itself as an attractive, intra-European, innovative industrial investment site. The strong presence of Romanian exhibitors at Expo Real München provided an excellent platform to make this location known internationally, promoting exactly this message”, says Sebastian Metz, general director of AHK Romania.

Romania’s stand was attended by representatives of local authorities looking for investors interested in sites in our country: Galați City Hall, Maramureș Business Park, Reșita City Hall, Centru Regional Development Agency and Suceava County Council, as well as those from the private sector , having as its basic activities the development of commercial, residential or industrial park projects, integrated logistics services, including urban development through software applications, civil and industrial constructions, consultancy: AFI Europe, Alma Consulting, Bucharest Real Estate Club, DeRom Total, REC Partners, Olympian Park, SPEEDWELL and WDP Romania.

Along with the joint stand of Romania, Brașov City Hall and Brașov Metropolitan Agency together with partners Urban Invest, Cartier Coresi, Maurer Imobiliare, AFI Brașov, Elmas, ARO Palace had their own stand, Invest in Brașov.

The Romanian pavilion was very well positioned in the first of the exhibition’s seven halls, and the projects from our country enjoyed increased interest. The participants of the common Romanian stand had permanent meetings during the three days of the fair. In order to draw attention to Romania’s potential, a series of events were organized at the common stand.

The two Investments in Romanian cities workshops were extremely well received by the public. Where we work and how we live and Romania, emerging logistics and industrial hub of the Region, both moderated by two renowned specialists in Real Estate, Ionuț Oprea Editor – “Romania’s Real Estate Guides” – Market Pulse Reports and Gerhard Rodler, editor-in-chief of Immobilien magazine Magazin & Publisher of Building Times at Immobilien Magazin.

The success of Romania’s joint participation this year is also evident from the statements of the participants:

“SPEEDWELL once again enjoyed the international real estate atmosphere at ExpoReal Munich. We particularly welcome the presence of the mayors and representatives of the mayors of Galaţi, Brașov, Cluj, Oradea and Reșita, who put their shoulders to the task of attracting foreign investors. The Romanian presence at ExpoReal is growing year by year, we look forward to this trend continuing and to see a more active presence of local authorities, a necessity to inspire confidence for further investment in amazing Romania. We thank AHK Romania for the perfect organization”, said Didier Balcaen, CEO of SPEEDWELL, at the end of the fair.

“A great Expo Real, with a spectacular increase in the number of exhibitors and participants, a more optimistic atmosphere than I expected and a more active and visited Romanian stand than ever before. The more present local authorities, Brașov with its own stand and the conferences from the Romania stand contributed to a better visibility of Romania. There is still more room to grow and we hope for even more involvement next year, especially from investors and developers”, said Tudor Popp, Managing Partner, Rec Partners.

“The Expo Real fair was an important opportunity for Maramureș county to interact directly with the other exhibitors, to be inspired by investment and financial trends, international networking in which to lay the foundations of connections and partnerships on the real estate markets in Europe. We already have many requests from investors who want to develop businesses in Maramureș, and the presence at Târgul Expo Real creates the necessary conditions for major investors from Europe to develop their businesses in Maramureș county”, said Ionel Bogdan, the President of the county administration.

“We proudly represented Brașov at Expo Real. (…) in a world that is rethinking its investment policies and the way businesses develop, Brașov is now on this map. To attract investment it is not enough to exist; you have to communicate constantly and communicate strategically. And Brașov is doing it, together with investors from Brașov and we are proud to be a united community – this is the message we sent to Europe and the European investors present at Expo Real, along with the investment opportunities our city offers. We are a united community, a sustainability-oriented community and a community that wants to attract investment. Brașov is open for investment,” said Allen Coliban, the mayor of Brașov.

“Thanks go to AHK Romania, a dynamic, pragmatic Chamber of Commerce, to which Reșița owes its participation in Expo Real 2022, as well as its permanent support for the city’s investment environment,” said Ioan Popa, the Mayor of Reșița.

Expo Real, now in its 24th edition, represented for the Romanian co-exhibitors an excellent opportunity to meet and interact with participants from many countries, proving once again that it is a pendant of international networking, of large-scale projects, investments and cross-border financing. All the links of the value chain in the field come together here – from project developers, investors and financiers, to economic regions and cities – turning the exhibition into a unique event on the international market.

The next edition of EXPO REAL will take place between October 4 and 6, 2023 in Munich.
